You’re right, Beverly, but you don’t need to go that far afield to see terrible pollution. Certainly the last couple of times I’ve been down to Los Angeles, the air was so thick in my lungs I felt like I’d smoked half a pack of cigarettes! It also reminds me of a quote from Pillow Talk – where Tony Randall says “You can feel the air in New York. It's got character.” Most major cities have pollution problems – though you’re right, it is often worse in Southeast Asia, where the laws aren’t so strict.

Regardless of whether or not Global Warming is ‘a real issue,’ it’s always a good idea to move towards sustainable energy sources that reduce pollution of all kinds. But the coal and oil industries have been ‘the Big Boys’ for so long that they’re (understandably) unwilling to let go of the power they currently wield over Western society – so they try to lull us into thinking the argument is about something that it’s not. The question of whether or not the ice caps are melting is not something most of us find immediacy in. But whether or not we’re breathing in exhaust fumes, or have petroleum runoff in our drinking water, that’s something we’re faced with every day. Trust me, if you've ever been in an open vehicle in Bangkok or Manila, you know exactly why we don't want that kind of pollution to continue and get worse.

George, you took the words out of my proverbial mouth, as I reviewed that film for DVDfile.com; one of the most important things that we can do, as we look around ourselves and see how much of our society has become flawed, is to look for what we can do about it. It’s so easy to get caught up in fear and inertia, taking no action, which only leads to more decay and degradation.

If you’re interested in this subject matter, it’s also worth looking at Bill Mollison’s work in Permaculture – this is my favorite interview of him.

Oh my god, I just watched Food Beware: The French Organic Revolution and I HAD to share it with everyone! It’s totally different from all those fear-mongering movies, that just show us what’s wrong– this one actually has suggestions for what we can DO about it!

It's impossible to tell the truth from the news alone, because there are so many people on both sides of the argument claiming to know the facts, and unless you go to Greenland yourself and watch the ice melt through your fingers, you have to depend on someone else's reporting through their agenda.
